Work In Progress Show

Last week the fourth fear Visual Communication/Communication Design students had the Work In Progress show, a show of prequel to the degree show in June (eek.)
It was the Glue Factory, in Glasgow, which scrubbed up pretty well but was BLOODY freezing.
The work however looked great and apparently it was the best WIP show in several years.

Above is the work I had in. My blurb was 'an exploration into the journey of the self,' which sounded very pretentious but I suppose it was. At the top I had a map with contours marking out the landscape of a group of islands (have a look at my website to see where those contours started). This was a sort of map of my current journey through life/in my head/metaphorically/something. There was a key next to it naming the areas such as, 'Forest of Uncertainty', 'Bay of Possible Happiness'.
Below that were two ink drawings of a dense forest, with a poem along side it. This was sort of supposed to be looking more closely at the area of the 'Forest of Uncertainty.'

On the shelf along the bottom was a row of jars with a collection of strange substances in them. These contained intangible things such as forgotten dreams or troubling memories that had been collected along the way!
Now I've had to explain it, it actually seems to fit together and follow some sort of theme, which is good to know!

Long time... no post!!

My website has been updated if you fancy seeing what I've been up to lately!

I will also post about the exhibition I was in last week!

Woohoo!

Website!!

Still a bit of a work in progress but do go have a look- there is a lot of new work on it!
When I say 'new' I mean from the summer holidays, which was actually a wee while ago now! Eek!

Squirrel sketch...

A little sketch I did for my squirrel story of the squirrel finding shelter in a log pile.

Book cover.

Screen printed book cover for Aku-Aku by Thor Herydahl, a book about discovering Easter Island. Bit of a learning process working with screen printing!

Pages from my Paris zine.

Here are the pages from the zine I made about my trip to Paris in March. In between the comic strip pages I had various drawing to show more raw emotions and feelings for Paris, some where sketches I drew whilst there. I printed it on white sugar paper and used a Japanese binding.

Stop Motion!

My first ever attempt at a stop motion animation.  Still pretty rough around the edges but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I will definitely continue to experiment with this way of working, maybe using a light box or other alternative back grounds. Enjoy!x

Click the 'watch on youtube' option, where there's a wee explanation of the story.

Paris Journal: Day One: Rough

A rough idea of what might be in my Paris comic. Very rough lettering but it gives an idea of the rest might look like!

Paris Journal

Planning on doing a wee comic to document my week in Paris with the illustration gang in March. Should be a bit of a challenge, but totally fun to attempt characterising my friends in comic form. Hoping to find some sort of style as a comic artist and if it's any good I may start an online diary comic! These are just preliminary idea sketches, I'll add some better ones soon!

New Yorker Cover

Brain was totally frazzled for this project but this is what I came up with. It's supposed to draw you in to work out what's going on. Is she one of them? Finished her mannequin shift? Ooh.
